How to pair your smartphone with your Ford SYNC

Ford's SYNC system enhances your driving experience with convenient access to your phone's entire contact list and music library through voice commands or touchscreen navigation. But before you can take advantage of these great features, you've gotta pair your phone to the vehicle!

While some may see it as a complicated task, pairing your phone with the SYNC system isn't as difficult as you'd think. That's why Kentwood Ford went ahead and made you a step-by-step guide to connect your smartphone to either the SYNC or SYNC 3 system.

Pairing with Ford SYNC

  1. Turn on your mobile device and enable Bluetooth to "discoverable".
  2. Press the Phone button on your SYNC menu.
  3. Press "Add" on the "Please add a phone" prompt.
  4. Your SYNC system will prompt you again: "Search for SYNC on your device and select SYNC once it is found." From there, go to your mobile device and search for SYNC and then select it.
  5. A six-digit number (PIN) will display on both your mobile phone and SYNC screen. From there, make sure the numbers on both screens match.
      1. Note: some devices will prompt you to enter the PIN, which means Secure Simple Pairing is not supported. In this case, ignore this step.
  6. Upon successful pairing, the display will confirm that the phone is connected.
  7. You're done! The system will display the Phone menu with a list of options such as Dial-a-Number, Phonebook, Text Messages, Phone Settings, and more.

Pairing with Ford SYNC 3

  1. Turn on your vehicle and mobile device.
  2. Enable Bluetooth to "discoverable".
  3. On your SYNC 3's touchscreen display, press "Add Device".
  4. Find SYNC 3 on your mobile device's list of Bluetooth devices and select it.
  5. After selecting SYNC 3 on your mobile device, a six-digit PIN will display. Confirm that the PIN displayed on both the SYNC 3 system and mobile device match each other.
      1. Note: some devices will prompt you to enter the PIN, which means Secure Simple Pairing is not supported. In this case, ignore this step.
  6. The SYNC 3 display will appear whether or not the pairing is successful.
  7. Next, SYNC 3 will display prompts to ask whether or not you want to activate 911 Assist and Auto-Download Contacts. You can turn either feature on or off if you'd like.
  8. Press the finish button and you're done!

By now, your phone should be connected and your SYNC system is ready to go! It's time to start rolling down those windows and start bumping those tracks! If you have any other questions or troubleshooting concerns regarding your SYNC system, make sure to let the team at Kentwood Ford know!
