What's The Most Fuel-Efficient EcoBoost Engine?

It's a bit of a general answer for this question, but the truth is that every EcoBoost engine excels in fuel efficiency! While fuel consumption levels vary on different vehicles, the Ford EcoBoost engine generally produces more power and less emissions for each vehicle class. However, there are several EcoBoost engine options available for a lot of Ford vehicles, each of them varying in fuel-efficiency and performance.

Ford F-150

The iconic Ford pickup truck comes in a wide variety of trims and models, with two EcoBoost engines to choose from. The first is a 2.7L EcoBoost engine can be found as standard on the Lariat trim-level for the F-150. It can produce over 325 horsepower and has a fuel economy of 11.9L/100km in the city and 9.0 on the highway. Meanwhile, the 3.5L EcoBoost engine is standard on both the F-150 Raptor and the Limited, with the former carrying a High-Output model exclusive to its trim. However, we'll only be focusing on the Limited version of the 3.5L engine, which has a fuel efficiency of 14.3L/100kms in the city and 10.5 on the highway, with only a horsepower of just 375 hp. Needless to say, the 2.7L version saves more on gasoline.

Ford Edge

For this comparison, we'll only look at the Twin Scroll 2.0L EcoBoost engine because of the varying drivetrains and technologies on the Ford Edge. For example, the Edge SE's FWD versions come with Auto Start/Stop technology that automatically turns the engine off to save more on gas. Fuel consumption on the Front-Wheel Drive Edge rates at 11.5L/100 km in the city, 8.0L/100 km on the highway, and 9.9L/100 km combined. Meanwhile, the All-Wheel Drive version clocks in with 11.9L/100 km in the city, 8.7L/100 km on the highway, and 10.5L/100 km combined. While the FWD Edge is the more fuel-efficient of the two, it's only by a few digits so driving the AWD version doesn't burn too much fuel in comparison.

Ford Focus

Lastly, the Ford Focus offers three different trims with EcoBoost engines. For the first trim-level, the Focus SE Sedan comes with a 1.0L 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology. It's the most fuel-efficient option available, with a rating of 7.9L/100km in the city and 5.9 on the highway. The last two models are performance-based ones, with a combined fuel economy ranging between 9.0L/100km for the Focus ST and 11.0L/100km on the RS model. Despite their fuel consumption, they each produce a high-level of horsepower, with the ST producing 252 horsepower and the RS producing 350-hp.
