  • What’s The Most Powerful EcoBoost Engine Available?

Front 3/4 view of the Ford Super Duty parked at factory parking lot

With the winning combination of both Direct Injection and turbocharger technologies, Ford’s EcoBoost engines are some of the most powerful and fuel-efficient in the market. So much so, that the only competition these engines really have left are with each other. Which EcoBoost engine is the most powerful? Let Kentwood Ford help you find the answer.

We listed some of the most powerful EcoBoost engines available on each vehicle class Ford has to offer, so you can see for yourself what the technology is capable of. As a quick note, we’re omitting the 2017 Ford GT from this comparison, instead focusing on vehicles available for commercial use.

    Truck – 3.5L EcoBoost Engine

The iconic Ford F-150 takes the crown when it comes to being both the best selling truck, and having the best performing engine in the market. The F-150 comes with the option of upgrading to the 3.5L EcoBoost engine, which produces up to 375 horsepower and a best-in-class 470 lb.-ft. worth of torque. If you thought that’s where it ends, you’d be wrong. The off-road focused F-150 Raptor uses a High-Output version of the same engine that produces even more power than the Raptor’s previous 6.2L V8 engine. The High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost engine produces up to 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. torque, making it the most powerful F-150 in the lineup—even compared to the available V8 and HEMI engines!

    SUV – 3.5L EcoBoost Engine

In contrast to the F-150, the Ford Expedition comes standard with the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. This truck-based SUV shares the same performance specs as the F-150, with a horsepower of 375-hp and 470 lb.-ft. worth of torque. Meanwhile, if you upgrade to the Expedition Platinum, you‘ll experience a further performance boost with 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. This is because the adaptive suspension dampers in the Expedition Platinum switches between soft and firm terrains on the road, letting you use the performance output for horsepower and torque instead of handling and traction.

    Car – 2.3L & 2.7L EcoBoost Engines

While Ford cars may not have the biggest engine sizes compared to their trucks and SUVs, they still pack a lot of punch. For example, the Ford Fusion V6 Sport comes standard with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine, which generates an impressive 325 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. torque. However, with the recent news of Ford discontinuing the majority of their sedan lines, the only two car models remaining will be the Ford Focus and the Ford Mustang. The latter has the higher-performance engine of the two, packed with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine that pushes out a horsepower of 310-hp and 350 lb.-ft. worth of torque.

We hoped you enjoyed this quick look at some of the most powerful EcoBoost engines available for purchase. If you’re interested in taking a look at any of these vehicles, or want to take them out for a spin, make sure to let us at Kentwood Ford know!
