We’re taking another trip down memory lane to look back at some of the Edmonton Oilers that have dropped by our dealership over the years. Being one of the oldest Ford dealers in Edmonton, Kentwood Ford has had our fair share of friendly faces stop by over the years. As the first overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, our alternate captain Ryan Nugent Hopkins has been a vital part of the Edmonton Oilers since day one– and we’re happy to have helped him get into a brand-new Ford truck!
Ryan Nugent Hopkins has been playing for the Oiler since 2011 and was named Rookie of the Month for consecutive seasons to start his career. Not only was he the first 18-year-old to record five assists in a game, a feat he accomplished during a 9-2 thrashing of the Chicago Blackhawks, he was also the only 18-year-old player to ever record five points in a single game. Even after missing 20 games in his first NHL season due to a couple of different shoulder injuries, he still tied Gabriel Landeskog for most points by a rookie that season! Our city has been affectionately screaming “NUUUUGGGGEEEE” from the stadium stands ever since.
While visiting our younger but not as handsome brother store, Team Ford, the Nuge himself signed a custom Oilers F-150 for one of our Go Auto giveaways, complete with orange and blue leather seats embroidered with his name and number. Not only that, but he also drove away from the dealership with a brand-new F-150 of his own!
We hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane, and we’ve been happy to watch as The Nuge has grown as a player throughout his time in Edmonton. If you haven’t already, take a look at our last Oilers flashback blog to see when Jordan Eberle stopped by our dealership while he was still part of the team!
