Just a few days ago, we took our first-place winner of Kentwood Ford’s annual Gear for a Year Facebook contest out to receive their grand-prize: $1000 worth of hockey gear, given by none other than Oilers superstar, Leon Draisaitl! Check out our recap of everything that went down, below!
For the uninitiated, we hold an annual contest on our Facebook page in search of Edmonton’s next hockey superstar. This year, it was none other than miss Alyssa Cardinal-Rain, and her mom Holly, that ended up taking this year’s grand prize. Alyssa plays as her team’s goalie when she’s on the ice and has big dreams to play for Team Canada when she grows up. And of course, her favourite NHL team is none other than our own Edmonton Oilers.
Alyssa and her family came to the St. Albert Source for Sports to not only pick up her prize but have it given to her by Oilers centreman, Leon Draisaitl!
The hat-trick wizard himself greeted everyone at the shop and even helped our hockey superstar pick out some brand-new hockey gear. Alyssa was able to nab some of the coolest gear in the store, including a new helmet, goalie pads, and even got a brand-new Oilers jersey signed by Draisaitl on the spot!
How else does this experience get better? After picking up all her gear, Alyssa gets to have Oilers alumni and radio personality, Jason Strudwick drop by one of their practices and guest coach for the whole team! With that kind of coaching, she’ll be able to reach Team Canada in no time.
We also want to congratulate our two runner-up winners, Jayce Gauthier and Jaxon Parr, who’ll both receive a cool $250 gift certificate for the St. Albert Source for Sports. And of course, we want to give a huge thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Gear for a Year contest to make it our best one yet! We’ve got some phenomenal stories posted on our Facebook page, and we’ve enjoyed reading every single one.
