See what drives the ST model over the Edge at Kentwood Ford

Terrible puns aside, there's a reason why the Ford Edge ST model has been highly anticipated here at our North Edmonton dealership (and we'll resist the urge to keep making them throughout the blog). It marks the first performance-based SUV in Ford's lineup, joining other models like the Shelby GT350, GT, F-150 Raptor, and Focus RS. So what makes this SUV so great otherwise? Let's take a look and see some of the latest additions, changes, and upgrades when compared to last year's Ford Edge Sport.

An engine that delivers

Before it became part of Ford's Performance line, the Edge Sport was but a humble SUV. The Sport model was not performance-driven, but it still packed a similarly-specced 2.7L EcoBoost engine and was considered the most powerful V6 engine in its class. It still produced an equally-impressive 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft. of torque, but of course, times have changed, and the Edge ST takes it one step further. This year, the 2.7L EcoBoost engine gets a nice bump up to 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft. of torque and is more fuel-efficient than ever with a combined fuel consumption rate of 11.0 L/100km.

Built for performance

Like we said, the Edge ST is officially part of the Ford Performance lineup, and with that, comes a handful of upgraded performance specs. For example, while last year's Edge Sport only came with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the Edge ST gets a welcome upgrade to an 8-speed automatic and even comes with a new rotary gear shifter. Additionally, the sport-tuned suspension gets upgraded to the Ford Performance Tuned Suspension, which gives even tighter handling and control over difficult corners.

With the Edge ST marking the introduction of the 2019 model for the Ford SUV, it also comes with almost every new feature and upgrade available this year, starting with the Ford Co-Pilot 360 driving assist system. Not only is this now standard across every Edge model, but it also comes with every driver assist technology you can think of, like a rear backup camera system, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automated emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlamps.
