Ford’s landmark pickup has been around for so long, there’s bound to be legends and myths surrounding it since its creation. We’re not talking “the ghost of Lee Iacocca haunting the Ford plant in Michigan” kind of legends, but you get the idea (also, somebody should double check that’s not a real thing). A lot of these fun facts are pretty impressive when you look at the numbers, to take a look and see for yourself!
For $349,000, please!
The F-150 itself is a generally affordable pickup truck. But deck it out with a 6×6 drive (yes, six wheels), a stretched frame and bed, and twin turbochargers and you get Hennessey Motorsports’ F-150 VelociRaptor. This concept truck by the popular vehicle modification company has a horsepower of over 600+hp and goes on the market for up to $349,000, making it the most expensive F-150 in existence.
World’s Fastest Production Truck
Not only is this title a great marketing tagline, but it’s also true. How so? Because the title of “World’s Fastest Production Truck” is also a Guinness World Record! In August 2003, a stock 2003 Ford SVT F-150 Lightning earned its place in the Guinness Book of World Records for a top speed of 147 mph (237 km/h) on Ford’s Arizona test track. However, if we’re talking about the fastest F-150 in the world, modified, turbocharged 2002 Ford F-150 Lightning broke that record by reaching 178.8 mph (287.8 km/h) at the “Texas Mile” racing event in October 2016.
A Best Seller from Coast-to-Coast (literally!)
Of course, it’s no secret that the F-150 is the best-selling truck on the market. But together with its other F-Series siblings, the total sales figures add up to nearly 1.1 million trucks purchased globally in 2018. If you lined up each one of those trucks bumper to bumper, it would stretch to over 4,000 miles (approx. 6,437 km)! To put that in perspective, that distance would basically cover Vancouver Island to Nova Scotia, with some trucks covering the way back!
Over 53 Years Strong
Looking at the F-150 by the numbers, there’s no denying its worldwide prowess in the automotive industry. Here are just a few of the highlights and achievements Ford has gotten throughout 2018:
- Ford F-Series is the best-selling pickup in Canada for the 53rd consecutive year
- Ford F-Series is the best-selling vehicle in Canada for the ninth consecutive year
- Ford is the best-selling auto brand in Canada for the tenth consecutive year
- Ford is the best-selling automaker in Canada for the third consecutive year
These were just a few fun facts that we were able to share with you about the F-150—there’s even one about its small stint as a monster truck, but we’ll save that for another time.
