What comes to mind when you think of the Ford Fusion? Reliability? A "safe" buy? Maybe even the word "boring"?
Well ... that's all about to change.
Competent and trustworthy, the Ford Fusion has been dubbed by many as the quintessential "safe" choice for Canadian car buyers. It has a longstanding reputation for reliability, and offers great fuel economy in the mid-sized segment.
What typically doesn't come to mind when you think of the Ford Fusion is speed. And certainly not 325 HP of it.
Meet the all-new 2017 Ford Fusion Sport. While it may look like every other Fusion on the outside, it's a whole different beast underneath the hood.
And it's anything but boring.
2017 Ford Fusion Sport Features
Sporting Ford's 2.7L V-6 Eco Boost engine and a full-time AWD System, the Fusion Sport puts out 325 HP and 380 ft. lbs of solid torque. The 2017 Sport goes from 0 - 60 mph in just under six seconds (5.3 tics to be exact). That makes the Sport the first ever modern mid-sized family sedan to exceed the 300 HP barrier.
Ford's also included an updated 6-speed automatic transmission in the Fusion. A heavy-duty paddle controls on the steering wheel. Combine this with Ford's electric power-assisted steering with pull-drift compensation and you've got total control in all types of road conditions, especially on crowned roads or in heavy side winds.
With an engine that powerful, you need a suspension system to match. First developed by their luxury counterparts Lincoln, Ford's paired their V6 with a Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) suspension system, which improves overall handling and helps drivers hug tight corners and roadways.
The CCD system is also responsible for evenly distributing power between all four wheels. Not only can you feel this system working when you're driving, you can actually watch it happening on the vehicle's instrument cluster via a pictogram.
What might be the most exciting addition to the Fusion, though, is the Sport's new Rotary Gear Shift Dial. When you select "S" the snarl of the engine is enhanced, steering efforts are increased and the CCD suspension system firms up control of the wheels and body while you're in motion.
Ford should consider replacing the "S" on the shift dial with a "W" as the Fusion is certainly a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Why Buy a 2017 Ford Fusion Sport
The 2017 Fusion Sport doesn't look like any other Fusion. When you get behind the wheel, though, you'll quickly realize just how different it is.
With increased power under the hood, an improved transmission and a suspension system worthy of a performance vehicle, the Sport is slowly transforming the way people think of the Fusion.
